Psychoeducational Assessments for Children & Adolescents

At Family First, we are experienced in conducting internationally recognised, comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations. These assessments are designed to provide a deeper understanding of a child’s academic, social, behavioural, and emotional functioning, and to guide the development of practical, evidence-based recommendations that support growth at home, in school, and in the wider community.

Our evaluations are not only diagnostic but also process-based, meaning they look beyond labels to understand each individual’s strengths, challenges, and learning style. The goal is to provide families, teachers, and caregivers with meaningful insights that lead to effective strategies and positive change.

Our Assessment Process

At Family First, all assessments are conducted by qualified and experienced psychologists who are trained in internationally recognised, standardised psychometric tools. These may include measures such as the WPPSI-IV, WISC-V, WAIS-IV, WIAT-IV, Tea-Ch 2, Conners CPT-3, BRIEF-2, ADOS-2, and ADI-R , depending on the needs of the child.

Step 1: Initial Parent Consultation

Every assessment begins with a parent-only interview to gather a detailed developmental, medical, and educational history. Parents are encouraged to bring past school reports and any previous assessment results. With consent, our team may also liaise directly with teachers to gain classroom insights and request screening questionnaires. In some cases, a school observation may be recommended.

Step 2: Individualised Assessment

Based on the information collected, we design a tailored assessment plan specific to each child’s needs. Psychometric testing is then carried out over one or two sessions, depending on the type of assessment and the child’s pace and stamina.

Step 3: Comprehensive Report

Following the assessment, results are analysed and compiled into a detailed written report. This report outlines findings, identifies areas of strength and challenge, and provides practical recommendations to support the child’s learning, social, emotional, and behavioural development in both school and home settings.

Step 4: Feedback & Ongoing Support

A feedback session is scheduled to discuss the results with parents. For older children or adolescents, they may be invited to join the discussion where appropriate. Additional feedback meetings with schools and follow-up review sessions can also be arranged at the family’s request.
