Neurodevelopmental Pediatrics

Neurodevelopmental pediatrics is a pediatric medical subspecialty focused on understanding and supporting children who have developmental, behavioural, learning, or neurological challenges.

At Family First, our specialist pediatricians work with families using a medical bio-psycho-social model to assess and manage neurodevelopmental, behavioural and well being concerns in Children of Determination aged 0-18 years. These include speech delays, global developmental delay, ASD (autism spectrum disorder), ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), cerebral palsy, feeding difficulties, coordination difficulties, feeding disorders, genetic syndromes, learning difficulties, behavioural challenges and other developmental conditions.

Our holistic care model is a step-by-step process where the developmental paediatrician supports the child and family in a neuroaffirming way.

“Neuroaffirming” means recognising and respecting the different ways people’s brains work. Instead of seeing differences as problems to fix, it values and supports each person’s strengths, needs, and identity, creating environments where everyone can thrive.
