Working Together With Schools
At familyFIRST, we help with any functional, academic or social difficulties and celebrate each child's individuality and strengths, and use these to help with any difficulties they may face academically and socially. We know that children learn best when everyone around them is working as a team with the same goal in mind, for each child to reach their full potential. This is the reason, we as a clinical team work closely with schools, families and the wider community, to ensure each child's therapy goals are supported both in the classroom and at home.
How we collaborate with schools:
- Staying connected: We meet with teachers regularly to discuss goals, share updates, celebrate progress and adapt therapy targets as needed.
- Functional skills: Skills taught in therapy sessions are carried over to the school or nursery setting, and practiced in real life situations for each child.
- Teacher tips & training: We provide teachers with simple, practical strategies which can be used in the classroom and playground every day.
- Shared goals: We ensure that therapy goals are inclusive of curriculum targets.
- Developmental pediatric support : Our specialist paediatrician connects with educators when requested by parents, or by teachers (with parental permission).
- Parent information session : This can be offered in school/nursery on topics such as child development, behaviour etc
- Consistency at home: We help to create a strong link between school, therapy, and home for steady progress.
By working closely with schools, we ensure each child is supported in every part of their daily life — helping them grow in confidence, communication, learning, with enriched family and social interaction
